What is Testable Minds?

Testable Minds is the built-in participant recruitment panel for Testable experiments. Instead of advertising your study externally, you post it directly to Testable’s pool of pre-registered participants who opt in to take part in research.

Testable Minds participants have registered on the platform and agreed to take part in psychological research. Key demographics:

  • Mean age: 34.9 years
  • 53.6% female
  • ~85% from English-speaking countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia)
  • Broad range of educational backgrounds

Participants earn money for completed sessions. Minimum pay rates ensure fair compensation.

TypeDescription
Regular MindsStandard pool; minimum $7.50/hr
Verified MindsHigher-quality subset with additional vetting; minimum $10.00/hr

Use Verified Minds for studies where data quality is critical or when you need a higher-engagement sample.

Testable Minds includes several mechanisms to maintain data quality:

  • Reject policy: You have a 48-hour window to review and reject submissions for legitimate quality reasons. The average rejection rate is around 5%.
  • Bot protection: Platform-level checks reduce automated submissions.
  • Approval history: Participants with poor approval ratings are demoted or removed from the pool.

Testable Minds is the recommended recruitment method for most studies hosted on Testable. It provides:

  • No external redirect configuration required
  • Seamless screener support (screened participants not charged)
  • Integrated approval and payment workflow
  • Real-time monitoring via Fieldwork Insights

For studies requiring specific hard-to-reach populations, external platforms (Prolific, SONA, MTurk) can be used instead; see Participants & Data.
