Launch and Manage
Once your study is approved, Testable Minds manages the session lifecycle, from participant sign-up through completion and approval.
Studies vs sessions
Section titled “Studies vs sessions”| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Study | Your overall recruitment posting (target N, pay rate, criteria) |
| Session | One participant’s assignment to that study |
A study contains many sessions. Each session has its own status.
Session statuses
Section titled “Session statuses”| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pending | Participant has signed up but not yet started |
| Active | Participant has started the experiment |
| Expired | Participant did not complete within the participation time limit |
| Completed | Participant finished and submitted results |
| Screened out | Participant was excluded by screener logic |
| Rejected | You rejected the submission |
| Approved | You approved the submission; payment is released |
Launching multiple sessions at once
Section titled “Launching multiple sessions at once”You can open multiple parallel sessions (e.g. recruit 10 participants simultaneously rather than sequentially). Participants who have been allocated to any session of a study are automatically excluded from its other sessions, preventing the same person from completing it twice.
External studies
Section titled “External studies”If your experiment is hosted elsewhere (not on Testable), you can still use Testable Minds recruitment by configuring an external study:
- Completion code: provide your external platform’s completion code, which Testable Minds shows to participants on finishing.
- Redirect URL: configure a URL to send participants back to after completion.
Submitting for review
Section titled “Submitting for review”After sessions close, or at any point you choose, submit the batch for review in the Minds dashboard. This triggers the approval workflow.
Approving and rejecting participants
Section titled “Approving and rejecting participants”You have 48 hours from session completion to approve or reject each participant.
- Approve: releases payment to the participant.
- Reject: withholds payment; you must provide a reason. Rejections should only be made for documented quality issues (e.g. submitted near-zero RTs, incomplete form responses, obvious non-engagement).
After 48 hours, Testable automatically approves any pending submissions.
Bonus payments
Section titled “Bonus payments”You can send a bonus payment to individual participants directly from the Minds dashboard, for example to reward particularly careful completion or to compensate for technical issues.
Messaging participants
Section titled “Messaging participants”Use the messaging feature to contact individual participants within the platform:
Do:
- Clarify a task instruction issue
- Notify a participant of a technical problem
- Thank participants for especially thorough responses
Do not:
- Ask for personal contact information
- Contact participants outside the Minds platform
- Discuss payment disputes outside the official workflow
