Participants & Data

Participants & Data (under Setup → Participants & Data) governs participation limits, group balance, session behaviour, and the mechanisms by which participants arrive at your project.

Participant limit

Section titled “Participant limit”

Set a maximum number of completed sessions. Once reached, new visitors are shown a “study closed” message. Leave blank for unlimited participation.

Participant counter

Section titled “Participant counter”

View the current number of completed sessions in real time. The counter can be reset, which is useful when you want to run successive waves of data collection without changing the project link.

Balanced Group Assignment

Section titled “Balanced Group Assignment”

When your project uses subjectGroup, enable this option to ensure groups grow as evenly as possible even when multiple participants start simultaneously. Without it, group assignment is sequential and can become unbalanced if many participants start at the same time.

Participation time limit

Section titled “Participation time limit”

Set a timeout (in minutes) for active sessions. If a participant starts but does not complete within the limit, their session is marked as abandoned. This frees quota for replacement participants and prevents sessions from counting against your limit indefinitely.

Recruitment options

Each project has a unique participation URL. Share it via email, social media, or any recruitment channel. You can customise the URL with query parameters to embed group or source information.

SONA

Section titled “SONA”

Connect your project to a SONA study for automatic credit granting. Provide the SONA completion URL in Default Screens and configure your SONA study to point to your Testable participation link.

Prolific / Mechanical Turk / Research Now

Section titled “Prolific / Mechanical Turk / Research Now”

Pass platform-specific participant IDs and redirect participants back on completion using the completion URL in Default Screens. Query parameters from the platform URL (e.g. PROLIFIC_PID) are automatically captured in your results.

Section titled “Testable Minds (recommended)”

Testable Minds is Testable’s own participant panel, the tightest integration, with no manual redirect configuration required. Screener support, balanced allocation, and approval workflows are all handled within the platform.
