What is Testable Class?

Testable Class is Testable’s teaching module. It lets instructors teach psychology with live behavioural experiments instead of slides: students take part in classic experiments in the browser, see the class results, and can go on to build and run their own studies with the full Testable toolset.

How it works

A class is a group with a name, a description, an image, and a short class code (for example CJKDX). Classes belong to your institution, contain tests (ordinary Testable projects) and enrolled students, and can be switched between active and inactive at any time. Students only see active classes.

Instructors create classes and fill them with tests in three ways:

Import one of their own Testable projects.
Import a ready-made test from the catalogue of prepared teaching experiments.
Create a new test from scratch, straight into the class.

Each test in a class has four switches: Live (visible and runnable), For credit (participation counts towards course credit), Can import (students may copy the test into their own account), and Can modify (students may change their imported copy).

Students find their institution’s active classes on a Find Classes page and apply to join (or accept an instructor’s invitation). If the student’s email domain matches the instructor’s, enrolment is automatic; otherwise the instructor approves the request. Inside a class, students see three tabs:

Demo tests to run and explore.
Tests for credit, where completing the test earns the credit once (a second run is not counted, and the test locks after completion).
My tests: their own imported copies, which they can edit, run, and analyse like any Testable project, including results downloads and visualisations.

What instructors see

The class view tracks everything in one place:

Per test: the standard Testable results pages (all export formats), plus results visualisation with tables, line charts, and bar charts over accuracy and reaction times. Visualisations can also be shown to participants on the debrief screen.
Per student: an enrolled-students roster with each student’s credits earned, tests created, results contributed, and last activity.

When a student runs their own copy of a class test, their results also flow into the instructor’s original project, so the class dataset stays complete even when every student works on their own copy.

Who can use it

Testable Class is included in departmental licences (look for “Access to Testable Class” in your licence email). Members of a licensed department are recognised by their institutional email domain and get the instructor or student role automatically; if Testable cannot tell which you are, it simply asks on first use.
